In 2021, Mantle (Pan Macmillan) published Anna’s debut novel, The Imposter, a thought-provoking story of obsession, loneliness, and the lies we tell ourselves in order to live with ourselves.

You can listen to her talking about it on BBC Radio Four, Woman’s Hour, here.

For many years Anna worked as a ghostwriter of memoir, and was best-known for her writing with Wendy Mitchell. Together they co-authored three books, Somebody I Used to Know and What I Wish People Knew About Dementia – both of which were Sunday Times bestsellers. And One Last Thing: How To Live With The End in Mind (all Bloomsbury).

Anna is exceptionally proud of the work they did together over those years. You can read more about how they wrote in this piece for Granta.

Somebody I Used to Know was also a Radio Four Book of the Week, and a Richard and Judy Bookclub pick. It was translated into more than a dozen languages.

Wendy died in February 2024, and left a lasting legacy in terms of her advocacy for better awareness of living as well as possible with dementia, and her belief in dying with dignity. You can listen to Anna paying tribute to her in BBC Radio Four’s Last Word programme here.

In 2017, Anna was longlisted for The Orwell Prize for her work as co-author of Hibo Wardere’s CUT: One Woman’s Fight Against FGM in Britain Today (Simon and Schuster).

In the time she worked as a ghostwriter, her focus was on amplifying the work of female activists. She is also proud to have helped bring the following books to life:

Breaking The Silence by Jo Milne (Hodder)

Brave by Adele Bellis (Harper Collins)

Those Who Can, Teach by Andria Zafirakou (Bloomsbury)

Off The Beat by Nusrit Mehtab (Transworld)
